Certifying Acceptance Agent in Miami
Verify your ITIN documents in person with an IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent, and keep your original passport instead of mailing it to the IRS.
Certifying Acceptance Agent
An IRS-Authorized Agent Who Verifies Your Documents in Person
A Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA) is an individual or business the IRS authorizes to help people obtain an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). As both an IRS Enrolled Agent and a Certifying Acceptance Agent, Top Pro Accounting guides your ITIN application from start to finish, in English or Spanish, from our Miami office.
The difference that matters to you is simple: we verify your original identity and foreign-status documents in person and return them at the same appointment, so your passport and other originals never leave your hands to be mailed to the IRS.

How It Differs
Acceptance Agent, Certifying Acceptance Agent, and Who Needs an ITIN
Two kinds of IRS acceptance agents exist, and only one lets you keep your original documents. Here is how they differ, and who an ITIN is for.
- Acceptance Agent (AA)
An Acceptance Agent helps you complete and submit Form W-7, but reviews and mails your supporting documents to the IRS, which means your originals leave your hands during processing.
- Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA)
A Certifying Acceptance Agent can verify your original documents and certified copies in person, then return them to you immediately after confirming they are authentic. We attach a Certificate of Accuracy to your Form W-7, so the IRS does not need your original passport.
- Who Needs an ITIN
An ITIN is for anyone with a U.S. tax filing or reporting obligation who is not eligible for a Social Security Number, regardless of immigration status: a foreign owner of U.S. property, a spouse or dependent on a return, an investor, or a nonresident who must file.
- Keeping Your Passport
Because we authenticate your documents in our office, you keep your passport throughout the process. That removes the biggest risk of a mailed ITIN application: sending your only passport to a federal office during tax season.
The Process
How the CAA Process Works
- 1
In-Office Appointment
You meet with us in Miami, by appointment, and bring your original identity and foreign-status documents. We confirm your ITIN is needed and which documents apply to your situation.
- 2
Document Authentication
As a Certifying Acceptance Agent, we verify your original documents in person and hand them back to you at the same appointment. Your passport is never mailed to the IRS.
- 3
Form W-7 and Certificate of Accuracy
We prepare your Form W-7, attach our Certificate of Accuracy, and submit the application to the IRS with your federal tax return, then track its status for you.
- 4
ITIN Issued
The IRS reviews the application and assigns your ITIN. We confirm it is ready to use on your return and keep you updated the whole way.
